Once the females are on the shore, they will bend and arch their bodies creating a burrow. She will then squirm around, digging herself deeper into the burrow until only her head is sticking out. Next, she deposits her eggs and waits for the males to enter her burrow. After fertilization, the male grunion retreats back to the sea, leaving the female behind.
